The Open Philanthropy Project awarded a grant of $453,440 to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) to support its work to advance farm animal welfare in China. The RSPCA plans to use this grant to develop and launch the country’s first higher farm animal welfare standards. Part of the award will allow the hiring of a China-based consultant to facilitate close collaboration with the official International Cooperation Committee of Animal Welfare, a key institution involved in bringing together Chinese stakeholders in the livestock and agriculture sectors.

This is one of several grants Open Philanthropy is making to support farm animal welfare in China, and falls within Open Philanthropy's overall work on farm animal welfare.
