GiveDirectly

GiveDirectly provides cash grants to poor households in developing countries. It is active in Kenya, with plans to expand into an additional country during 2013.

GiveDirectly targets poor villages and, within those villages, selects the poorest households based on the quality of the materials of which their homes are made. It provides one-time grants of $1,000 (USD) and recipients are free to use the money however they prefer. It aims to deliver at least 90 cents directly to recipients of every $1.00 in total expenses. It performs a series of checks and audits to prevent corruption and monitor for problems.
