The Open Philanthropy Project awarded a grant of $40,000 to East Bay Forward via California Renters Legal Advocacy and Education Fund (CaRLA) to support the 2017 national YIMBY conference, which took place in Oakland, California in July. This grant falls within Open Philanthropy's work on land use reform.

East Bay Forward is a network of citizens working toward maximizing affordable housing in the eastern region of the San Francisco Bay Area. The conference, named for the “Yes, In My Backyard” movement, which refers to the better-known acronym “NIMBY”, brings together several organizations from around the country that advocate for more permissive housing policy in key metro areas around the U.S. Open Philanthropy previously made a grant to support the first national YIMBY conference in 2016.
