The Open Philanthropy Project awarded a grant of £201,594 ($255,816 at time of conversion) to the Jeanne Marchig International Centre for Animal Welfare Education at the University of Edinburgh to support its work to improve farm animal welfare in East Asia. The Centre plans to use this grant primarily to fund the staff and travel costs to send international farm animal welfare experts to East Asia to work collaboratively with large-scale producers, veterinarians, small-scale rural producers, and technical staff to identify and solve animal welfare challenges. It also plans to fund a complete PhD focused on evaluating whether the program improves outcomes for animals.

This is one of several grants Open Philanthropy is making to support farm animal welfare in East Asia, and falls within Open Philanthropy’s overall work on farm animal welfare.
