Organization:
Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary
Award Date:
11/2021
Amount:
$940,100
Purpose:
To support research on Alzheimer’s disease.

Good Ventures awarded a grant of $940,100 over four and a half years to Mass Eye and Ear to support research on Alzheimer’s disease, led by Joseph Arboleda-Velásquez of Mass Eye and Ear, Laura Kiessling and Ed Boyden of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Diego Sepulveda-Falla of the Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf, and Francisco Lopera of the Universidad de Antioquia.

Researchers will use a new method of molecular visualization, developed by Dr. Boyden, to analyze brain structures in Alzheimer’s patients in order to investigate the mechanisms associated with resilience to Alzheimer's disease. The research builds upon Dr. Arboleda-Velásquez’s work, which we supported in August 2020, identifying genes that delay the onset of the disease in humans.

Good Ventures, with support from Open Philanthropy, has been investigating how best to fund scientific research that might help reduce the future burden of Alzheimer’s disease
