Mercy For Animals — International Cage-Free Advocacy

Organization:
Mercy For Animals
Award Date:
08/2016
Amount:
$1,000,000
Purpose:
To support international investigations, corporate outreach, and advocacy to end the confinement of hens in battery cages.

The Open Philanthropy Project awarded a grant of $1,000,000 over two years to Mercy For Animals to support its work to end the confinement of hens in battery cages. Mercy For Animals is an animal advocacy organization that engages in a variety of activities, including campaigning for corporations to end the use of cages to confine egg-laying hens.

This grant falls within Open Philanthropy's work on farm animal welfare. Earlier in 2016, Open Philanthropy made a series of grants to support corporate cage-free campaigns (including a previous grant to Mercy For Animals) and wrote a blog post about why this seems to be a promising strategy to promote farm animal welfare. The present funding, part of a new series of grants focusing on international cage-free advocacy, will support Mercy For Animals’ work in Latin America and Asia.
