The Open Philanthropy Project awarded a grant of Rs 6,000,000 ($89,392 at time of conversion) via Humane Society International to People for Animals to support its work to end the confinement of hens in battery cages. People for Animals is an animal advocacy organization that engages in a variety of activities, including campaigning for corporations to end the use of cages to confine egg-laying hens.

This grant falls within Open Philanthropy’s work on farm animal welfare, specifically within its interest in farm animal welfare in Asia.

Earlier in 2016, Open Philanthropy made a series of grants to support corporate cage-free campaigns and wrote a blog post about why this seems to be a promising strategy to promote farm animal welfare. The present funding, part of a new series of grants focusing on international cage-free advocacy, will support People for Animals’ work in India.
