The Open Philanthropy Project recommended a grant of $50,186 to the University of British Columbia to enable animal welfare science student Maria Chen to produce a Masters thesis on pig welfare. Her planned research could identify reform opportunities on mid-sized pig farms. We see this grant as largely devoted to building a talent pipeline for farm anwork on pimal welfare research in East Asia.
