To support research on how gut microbiomes affect Alzheimer’s pathology in mice.

Open Philanthropy recommended a grant of $2,000,000 over three years to Washington University in St. Louis to support research led by Professor David Holtzman on how gut microbiomes affect Alzheimer’s pathology in mice. Recent results were published in Seo et al., Science 379, 155 (2023).

This follows Good Ventures’ November 2018 support for Professor Holtzman’s research. Good Ventures, with support from Open Philanthropy, has been investigating how best to fund scientific research that might help reduce the future burden of Alzheimer’s disease.
